From the earliest period of the history of Nepal, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Nepalese people have been following the teachings of Lord Buddha continuously. Eastern Nepal bears a significant role in propagating Buddhism. But at present Buddhists are unable to unify themselves owing to a lack of any central religious center, Buddha statue, monastery or center of education for receiving inspiration. Bhedetar, a tourist destination in eastern Nepal with natural beauty, is situated 65 km from Biratnagar (a 30 mins flight from Kathmandu Airport). This place is the meeting point of the Sunsari and Dhankuta districts. We plan to erect a Thousand Big Buddha Statue. To make this place a religious destination as well, Suryodaya Buddha Vihar (Monastery) initiated a project to develop this place as a respected land and religious tourist destination with the aim to protect and promote Buddhism. Construction of the Thousand Big Buddha is about to be undertaken at the Suryodaya Buddha Vihara (Monastery). Through this project we aim for the multitude development of this area – preservation of environment, development of social harmony and economic prosperity by offering social services in areas of health, education, religion and culture, etc.
It is situation at Dharan and there are different transportation facilities available.
